It has curving leaves that are somewhat dull due to papillose (hairy) qualities. It is a light medium shade of green. Short sporophytes (less than an inch) are distinctive with round capsules that resemble little green apples (early stage). Its second scientific name, pomiformis, means "apple like" in Latin.
